Our Alexander Family originated in Scotland. We know that James Alexander and his family lived in Leith, Midlothian at the end of the 1700's. He was married to Elizabeth Sime and together they had nine children there between 1792 and 1807. James was a sailor in Leith near Edinburgh, and Elizabeth's father was a sailor in nearby Anstruther.
We are descended from their son George who married Mary Sime, who was also from Anstruther. George and his family lived in Leith where they had six sons. Their son Henry, and some of the others stayed in Scotland. Another son, George, moved to London after his marriage and two of his sons moved to Canada. The branches of the family lost contact with each other.
In 2008, three times great grand-daughters of James met on-line. Since then other descendants of James and Elizabeth have contributed their stories. This is the story of our Alexander families.
